Cairns Indigenous Art FairKirtley joined friend and international digeridoo sensation William Barton for the honor of the headline performance for the 2010 Indigenous Art Fair. The two featured their World Premiere composition, "The Four Elements", to a standing-room-only crowd of nearly 1000 at the Tanks Arts Centre. The work was a fiery juxtaposition of light and shadow, brave and vulnerable, classic and contemporary. The violin and digeridoo combination was a unique and daring musical pairing that brought the duo accolades in The Australian, and crowds cheering for more! Guests of Honour included Queensland Premier Anna Bligh and Governor General Quentin Bryce. The event was filmed for TV and aired shortly afterwards.

Cooktown Discovery FestivalThe Sunrise Morning Show filmed Paradise Concerts for its debut at the Cooktown Discovery Festival. The musicians performed a sunset concert overlooking the very harbour where Captain Cook landed, and the re-inactment of his landing was special, as our concert included music familiar to audiences of his day. Soprano Joy Power-Cleary shone in her solo role, concluding her arias with a rousing encore of "Rule Brittania", and the string quartet led by Kirtley Leigh starred in the evening's festivities. We even managed to look fetching in period dress costumes!

Ami Hakuno Roge on Brandenburg 5Pascal Roge and his wife Ami Hakuno have been regular guest artists with Paradise Concerts since our first series. Here Ami demonstrates the technical challenges facing the harpsichord player in Bach's famous Brandenburg Concerto 5. Our harpsichord for that concert was generously loaned by Doctor Michael Carrette, who assembled the instrument by hand from a kit (all in his spare time!)
